Understanding The Benefits Of Chiropractic Treatment

Even though chiropractors have been effectively treating patients for over one hundred years, some people are still aware of the benefits of chiropractic, not only in relieving pain, but its effectiveness in helping to improve the overall health of the body. Even though this form of pain relief management continues to be recognized in the medical community, there are a few individuals who seem to retain doubts about how chiropractic adjustments can provide long-term pain relief.

The most basic advantage of chiropractic treatment is pain relief. Your Racine chiropractor helps in pain management by locating and correcting severe stress in the nervous system due to subluxation or misaligned vertebrae. Whether a misalignment is due to an injury, accident, or aging, chiropractic management enhances the range of movement in the area and strengthens muscle function.

Because Chiropractic care practices natural methods of treatment, it helps sufferers to avoid the dangerous side effects common to the use of many pharmaceuticals. As evidence has shown, overusing pain medications frequently results in addiction, due to a drugs tendency to increase a body’s tolerance levels in order to maintain effectiveness.

Constant medication, and most surgical procedures, are not the answer when it comes to treating back pain and other related conditions. This is proven by the fact that more and more people are now choosing chiropractic as intelligent alternative solution for getting the help they need for their back pain. Racine chiropractors provide successful, long-term relief from back pain symptoms. Chiropractic is a diverse treatment method that can meliorate many painful conditions without requiring conventional pain medication.

The methods used in chiropractic treatment have been used for well over a hundred years, and this further supports the idea that using chiropractic care in treating back pain and other related conditions is very effective in successfully addressing the issue. As stated, chiropractic treatment uses spinal adjustments and body retraining to align the spin, relieve pain, and augment muscle ability. By doing this, it not only offers pain relief, but most patientsfind life-long health solutions using chiropractic care.

Guitarists And Pianists Trust Chiropractic Treatment For Relief Of Carpal Tunnel Symptoms

Since I’d been a guitarist for many years, I wasn’t surprised to findlearn that my technical skills were finely tuned, so to speak, by the time I became a Glendale Chiropractor. Needless to say, my hand coordination was well-developed!  In addition, I discovered among my musicial friends the hand problems that many musicians experience, like carpal tunnel syndrome. In fact, I was not only known as a Glendale Chiropractor, but I became known as “the music doctor” because musicians from all over started coming to see me to “fix” their hand problems. The pain relief and increased mobility that my patients experienced, and the carpal tunnel surgeries (often ineffective or worse!) that were avoided resulted in a whole bunch of “thank yous.” In fact at holiday time, I not only got a plethora of “fruit baskets” from my happy patients, but plenty of “fruitcakes” from overjoyed insurance claim adjusters who were compelled to spend far less each year in compensating for chiropractic treatment than they did for surgical procedures! (Just kidding, of course!)

Anyone who is informed about chiropractic techniques is well-aware that a chiropractic approach for pain relief, joint mobility, and general health and wellness is about more than the spine (though achieving spine health is essential). Repetitive motions make all joints of the musculoskeletal system vulnerable to diminished function and range of motion limitations. Musicians are like many other professionals whose work demands repetitive action. And, many professionals, as well as musicians have discovered chiropractic care to be an effective, natural, non-surgical approach to treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Why do so many musicians, especially guitarists and pianists, experience carpal tunnel challenges in particular? Well, the carpal tunnel is located within the underside of the wrist! It is an actual “tunnel” (or passage) through which the Median nerve passes on its way to affect and animate the hands and fingers. Nerve entrapment is often the result of the types of repetitive movements performed by many musicians. to be sure, this time of nerve entrapment disorder is commonplace. The nerve is impinged between other tissues when inflammation or irritation, due to overuse, causes the tendon to enlarge. Long hours of practice, as well as extended performance, are generally responsible. Misalignment of the carpal bones frequently results. Commonly, musicians feel pain, numbness, pins and needles, and tingling in their fingers and hand(s), especially their thumb and adjacent two fingers. It is not secret that many musicians routinely awaken from sleep with these symptoms. And, these symptoms can go from bad to worse because CTS can make hands feel clumsy or weak, and fatigue easily with activity. If not treated, eventually, grasping small objects (like a guitar pick or the bow of a bass) with the thumb and fingers can be extremely affected. And, although the well-informed musician who knows about the healing effects of chiropractic treatment would not let this happen, untreated Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can become the complete disability of the hand.

It is highly recommended that musicians, and anyone else suffering from repetitive stress symptoms to try see a chiropractor who understands the symptoms and the solution, like your Glendale chiropractor. You can ask him more about safe and natural chiropractic care. Would you like to find out what chiropractic care can do for you? Then call a chiropractor today!

Question: Will You Have to See Your Sacramento Chiropractor "Forever"?

As a Sacramento Chiropractor, one of the most common questions I hear asked by those considering chiropractic care is: “If I start going to a chiropractor, will I have to always go?” I often wonder why this particular question doesn’t come up for someone who goes to a general medical practitioner. Think about it: How strange would it be if someone asked, “If I go to Dr. Smith for a general checkup and he gives me a prescription for a temporary condition I might have, will I have to see him ‘forever’?” The answer is “Of course not.” You don’t have to see Dr. Smith again, but you probably will for your yearly or bi-annual checkup and, naturally, in between if you’re not feeling well.

The same is true when you go to see a chiropractor. Most of the time, individuals go to see a chiropractor because they’re in pain (not feeling well). After the chiropractor has treated them and gotten them out of pain (a ‘prescription,’ so to speak, for a temporary condition), the chiropractor will probably suggest maintenance care (a general checkup even when you’re feeling okay). The only difference is that a chiropractor will likely suggest that you come in monthly. Why? Because chiropractors are all about preventative care whenever possible. Maintenance care is like a “tune up” that not only helps your body to maintain the “crisis” treatment you received when you were in pain and keeps you healthier and stronger so that you can avoid future injuries, but during your maintenance visit your chiropractor can make sure that you don’t have a “temporary condition” that needs to be corrected before it becomes “crisis” treatment.

Cumulative effects of awkward sitting posture, bad work habits, incorrect lifting, lack of regular exercise, and other unhealthy lifestyle-related influences can produce pain, often excruciating pain, in your back, neck, shoulders, hips, knees, etc. Getting “checked out” and “readjusted” on a regular basis keeps small conditions from becoming big problems.

So, to the question “If I start doing to a chiropractor, will I need to go “forever”? The answer is “No, but you may want to, for your health’s sake!”

When It Comes to Reducing Arthritis Pain, There Are Natural Alternatives That Can Help

As a chiropractor, I know from experience that chiropractic treatment can help to reduce the pain experienced by many arthritis sufferers. Getting the musculoskeletal system in good alignment and helping to increase mobility in arthritic joints can do wonders to decrease an arthritis sufferer’s current pain and also to help to slow the degenerative changes that may add to future arthritic problems. In addition to chiropractic treatment, there are other alternative, drug free approaches that can help to reduce inflammation, neutralize free radicals, and sustain bone mass. Below is an article I just read on  Current Arthritis News and Research that I found extremely useful. I think that you will too. Read on…

Many arthritis sufferers have tried unusual and rather nasty ‘cures’ for their disease like enduring bee-stings or covering themselves in cow-manure. The benefits must have been rather less spectacular than the cures or else everyone else would have done the same.

One arthritis cure suggests that half a glass of raw potato juice followed by chewing two or three juniper berries will do the trick! While this may be so, many doctors and scientists researching arthritis have studied the benefits of taking nutritional substances like vitamins. In fact, studies have shown that people with arthritis are mostly deficient in the B group of vitamins, though whether this is due to the disease or to the fact that taking aspirin depletes the body’s stores of this vitamin is not clear.

Vitamin C, E and beta-carotenes are powerful antioxidants that help to neutralize free radicals. These oxygen-reactive free radical molecules are thought to contribute significantly to disease and tissue damage. It has been found that cells from damaged knee cartilage can release great amounts of free radicals. In fact, studies have shown that those who have a high Vitamin C intake have a two-thirds reduction in the risk of further damage to their knees. Well-known scientist Dr. Linus Pauling recommends 18 grams of V-C per day as an arthritis preventative measure.

Osteoarthritis can cause thinning of the bones, and so can prednisone, often given to treat it. It makes sense then to increase the amount of Vitamin D and calcium, both of which are bone-builders. As far back as 1974, British scientists found that lack of vitamin D contributed to bone fractures in the elderly with arthritis. Lack of sunlight and an unhealthy diet both contributed to the lack. The recommended daily dose of Vitamin D is 400 IU or 600 IU if for those over the age of 60. A daily dose of 1200 IU is the limit as this vitamin is toxic if too much is taken.

Vitamin E is also an antioxidant; working in a similar way to vitamin C. Studies in Germany have proven that it can help to reduce pain. Good sources of this vitamin can be found in wheat germ, sunflower seed, corn oil, legumes and whole grains.

While some people swear by the arthritis cure that their copper bracelet brought, there is no scientific link to copper as being an aid to arthritis. In fact the opposite is true. Those with RA often have higher levels of copper in their blood. Too much copper can make you sick.

Selenium deficiency can cause a particular type of arthritis called Kashin-Bek disease, but it is more common where the soil is deficient in selenium, though sufferers of RA have less in their blood than others. Fish, organ meats, whole grains, nuts and beans will provide selenium.

Zinc may help reduce pain, stiffness and swelling. Some trials showed this was true, though others gave conflicting results. Oysters, cheese and tofu are all good sources of zinc.

Even We "Non-Olympians" Can Push the Boundaries of Our Human Potential

As a chiropractor I am always interested in new ways to get my patients to move their bodies more. When we’re run, dance, play a sport, and exercise in our life, we will stay active for many years than those who choose to be sedentary observers. As they say, “Life is not a spectator sport.” So, it would seem that if anyone could inspire physical action and mental focus, it is an Olympic athlete. I just read some excellent tips provided on the Medical News Today website that I think you will find interesting as well, “Six Things We Can Learn From Olympians.” You can learn about those six things on the link provided, but here’s a “teaser” that, hopefully, will get you interested enough to make the “click.” It’s well worth the read.

Olympic athletes inspire us with their fierce discipline and natural talent as they smash records, going higher, further and faster. Their can-do spirit encourages us all to take on new challenges. Whether your goal is to complete your first marathon, improve your golf game or compete in a triathlon competition, there are lessons to be learned from the best of the best.

“The Olympics symbolize the chance for all of us to push the boundaries of human potential,” said Chris Sebelski, assistant professor of physical therapy at Saint Louis University. “As I tell my students, if you want to compete at a high level, mimic the strategies of those at the top.” Read on…

Sacramento Chiropractic: Get Fit to Deter Golf Injuries

Featured

Sacramento Chiropractor

With any type of sport, injuries are not uncommon. It is beneficial to discover what injury is likely to occur in a specific sport and then to do whatever it takes to avoid it. Sadly, sports injuries can’t always be avoided. Therefore, it’s beneficial to be physically fit to make getting injured less predictable, or less traumatic.   Before beginning a sport, such as golf, the most valuable thing you can do is to be sure that you have an appropriate fitness level. By perpetuating a healthy lifestyle, making sure your joints are mobile and your muscles are limber, preparing your body prior to activity, using proper form and good postures during activity, and allowing yourself plenty of cool down and relaxation time, you just might keep your body safe from injury.

It isn’t just amateur golfers who get injured. It has been conjectured that nearly one-third of pro golfers playing at any given time are playing injured. The good news is that general good health and fitness can decrease how many injuries you may experience and could actually prevent them altogether.

It is vital for you to have good body strength in the muscle zones most employed during golf. However, it’s prudent to determine that your spine is in proper alignment and that it has good mobility before you set out to build muscle strength. A proficient golf swing relies on your spine’s capacity to adequately move in a rotational action. Back injuries are the most prevalent type of injuries experienced by golfers. To be certain that your spine is in appropriate alignment and there is good movement in the vertebrae, see your chiropractor in Sacramento. Chiropractic management can go a long way in helping you to avoid back injury.

It’s time to strengthen once you’re “straightened.” Being prepared for your round of golf is crucial to safe, injury-free action on the green. You can warm up your muscles and make muscle strain less likely by doing golf stretching and flexibility exercises. Flexibility in all regions of the body can be escalated relatively fast as the result of full body range of motion (ROM) exercises. Furthermore, elastic band conditioning offers functional golf range of motion benefits and can increase needed power in the shoulders, hips and deep muscles of the core. Sports professionals, like your chiropractor, are including elastic band training in their golf conditioning programs because the bands offer dynamic resistance that regular weight lifting does not supply.

Many golfers have painful “Golfer’s Elbow” along with back injuries. There is a minute difference between golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow despite the fact that they are almost the same. Tennis elbow affects the outside of the upper arm whereas golfer’s elbow affects the inner arm. Golfer’s elbow, like tennis elbow, can result from a single violent action, such as (in golf) striking the mat at the driving range or thrusting down on a hard fairway surface. But, it generally results from repetitive stress from smaller shocks. Furthermore, it can come upon those who abruptly start playing too much golf. For instance, if players that ordinarily play golf once or twice a month decide to enter into a tournament, they are likely at risk for contracting the injury.

Golf makes distinctive demands on the body. The game is ordinarily longer than many other sports and that can cause fatigue. Bad posture and impeded coordination are often the consequences of a fatigued body. These two factors combined can cause a variety of injuries. In addition, as a result of the constant swinging of the golf clubs, the shoulder muscles are prone to injury. Just as attention should be given to make sure that your muscles are stretched and warmed up prior to starting your golf game, be sure to rest your body appropriately between games.

An unexpected injury occasionally related to golf is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. But, this injury can be the result of numerous games of golf played over several months repetitively as it is an affliction that occurs due to repetitive stress Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be a an extremely damaging injury causing disability and occasionally requiring surgery. However, chiropractic treatment and, frequently the use of a brace will alleviate the problem if a health professional, such as your chiropractor, diagnoses it at an early stage.

Injuries are assumed to be unavoidable part of life for most golfers. But, a healthy, mobile spine, judicious preparation, appropriate exercise and muscle conditioning, reaching and maintaining a an appropriate fitness level, and reasonable rest and recuperation after your game is over, can make injuries a good deal less a part of your golfing experience.

It may be practical for you to have some information, beforehand, about the assorted chiropractic treatment plans Dr. Kim may possibly recommend.

  • Relief Care is a type of chiropractic approach suggested to people who are in the throes of almost any type of pain or discomfort, no matter the root of the problem. The purpose of this course of action is to supply quick pain relief. The length of the treatment time period is likely to fluctuate as the treatment depends exclusively on the magnitude of the injury or dysfunction sustained by the individual and how quickly it can be corrected.
  • Corrective Care is often a “more advanced” form of chiropractic treatment. It is for those that have experienced spinal problems over an extended time period, i.e., for those who have a chronic problem that has developed into a more complex condition owing to delaying proper care. Remedial treatment invariably stretches over a longer time frame. How long treatment is needed is determined by the severity of the progressive condition and how fast the person responds to the therapy.
  • Maintenance Care, as the name implies, is intended to maintain or support any type of care previously given to a patient. Many times, chiropractic treatment is extended solely after the initial treatments have been shown to be efficacious. The intention of this kind of chiropractic care is to eliminate the potential of the initial condition coming back and to prevent degenerative changes in the future.
  • Wellness Care is available to those that are not having acute discomfort, but want to increase their overall health. Routine chiropractic treatment boosts the circulation of blood and oxygen in the body, increases muscle flexibility, helps avert work and play injuries, and adds to an individual’s total sense of well-being.

Whether you are presently experiencing pain or you would like to increase your overall health, chiropractic care can help. Call Dr. Kim, your Sacramento Chiropractor, today!
